The setting is in Northern California as several NorCal cities are mentioned (Sausalito, Santa Rosa, Sacramento and Stockton) and the river that Malorie and the children traverse is the Smith River in Del Norte County near the California/Oregon border. However, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the house where the survivors take shelter is in Monrovia near Los Angeles, and most of the non-forest/river scenes were shot in LA as well. The plot is scattered. The characters are generic and cheesy.
It's one of those films where you're constantly waiting for it to get good, and then the credits roll.
Sitting through this made me realize how lucky I am to have a normal job. It must be hard for people who live off of giving movie reviews if they have to encounter a movie like this on a regular basis.
